DomainKing Hosting Pricing and Plans
Choosing the right hosting plan isn’t just about finding the lowest price; it’s about value, performance, and selecting features that align with your website’s needs. One of the main reasons DomainKing is popular is its competitive pricing. It’s among the few affordable hosting providers in Nigeria that offer budget-friendly monthly plans with essential features that make the service truly worthwhile.
However, low prices don’t always guarantee quality. To determine where the real value lies, let’s examine each hosting plan DomainKing offers.

DomainKing Uptime and Performance
I didn’t want this to be another “it’s fast and reliable” review. So I set up a live WordPress test site on DomainKing’s DA Minister shared hosting plan and monitored it continuously for 30 days. No aggressive optimisation or premium caching plugin. Just a clean WordPress install, a lightweight theme, and essential plugins, the way most bloggers would realistically use it.
I tested three critical performance benchmarks:
- Speed (real-world loading time)
- Uptime consistency
- Load handling under traffic spikes
Here’s what happened.
- Speed Test
To measure DomainKing server loading speed, I used Pingdom and tested from multiple locations, including Europe and North America, since many Nigerian hosts route traffic internationally. Over the course of 30 days, I conducted repeated tests at various times, including peak hours and off-peak periods.
The average load time ranged between 864ms and 1.2 seconds. The fastest load time recorded was 864ms, while the slowest, during peak hours, reached 2.9 seconds. The average page size was 1.2 MB, and the performance grade was consistently a B.
The Time To First Byte (TTFB) hovered between 450ms and 650ms, which is reasonable for shared hosting in this price category.
What impressed me wasn’t blazing speed; it was consistency. The server didn’t produce wild fluctuations. Load times remained within a tight range, which is often more important than one lucky fast test result.
However, I did notice slight slowdowns during high-traffic evening hours. That’s typical of shared environments where resources are distributed among multiple accounts. DomainKing is not ultra-premium fast, but it delivers stable and predictable performance. For blogs, portfolio sites, and small business websites, it performs comfortably within acceptable SEO standards.
- Uptime Test
Next, I configured continuous monitoring using UptimeRobot at five-minute intervals. Uptime is non-negotiable; even the fastest website is useless if it frequently goes offline. Over the 30-day monitoring period, the server achieved an overall uptime of 99.93%. In practical terms, the website remained accessible and fully functional for nearly the entire test window.
There were 31 minutes of total downtime, spread across four minor incidents. The longest outage lasted nine minutes, while the others were shorter and resolved quickly.
What stands out most is what didn’t happen. There were no prolonged outages, no multi-hour server crashes, and no full-day downtime that could significantly impact business operations or search rankings. For shared hosting at this price point, 99.93% uptime represents a stable and dependable result. While the server isn’t immune to brief disruptions, which are common in shared environments, it maintained consistent availability for everyday websites.
Each incident appeared to stem from brief server resets or temporary connectivity interruptions rather than catastrophic failures. In the shared hosting market, anything above 99.9% uptime is generally considered stable, and DomainKing met that benchmark during my test period.
- Load Handling
This is where I really wanted to push the server. Using Loader.io, I simulated traffic spikes to see how the server behaves under pressure. I ran a 60-second test sending increasing virtual users to the website, mimicking what happens when a blog post goes semi-viral, or an email campaign drives traffic. To understand how the DomainKing server behaves under pressure, I gradually increased the number of simultaneous visitors and monitored the changes in response times. With 50 users accessing the site simultaneously, the server performed smoothly. The average Response Time was 980 milliseconds with no failed requests.
At this level, the server showed no signs of stress. Response times remained under one second, with no sudden spikes or dropped connections. For a typical blog or small business site, 50 simultaneous users already represent a healthy traffic burst, and DomainKing handled it without hesitation. When I doubled the traffic to 100 simultaneous users, the pressure naturally increased. The average Response Time jumped between 1.9 and 2.6 seconds with no failed requests.
This is where I began to see response times stretch. The server slowed down, but it remained stable. Importantly, no requests failed. That means visitors would still reach the site; they might experience slightly slower loading, but not error messages or downtime. At 150 simultaneous users, the shared hosting limits became more visible. The average Response Time skyrocketed above 3.5 seconds. Response times increased more noticeably, and a few requests took longer than ideal. However, the server stayed online. There were no total failures, no 500 errors, and no system crashes.
This is where shared hosting begins to show its limitations. DomainKing's shared hosting infrastructure can handle short bursts of high traffic, but to sustain higher traffic, you will need to upgrade to Contabo VPS, Namecheap VPS, Hostinger, or Spaceship.
DomainKing Customer Support
Customer support can make or break a hosting experience. From my experience, DomainKing provides dependable assistance when issues arise. They offer 24/7 support, so whether you’re dealing with a technical issue, a website setup question, or a billing concern, assistance is available at any time. In my experience, response times were reasonable, especially through the ticketing system.
Support is available via live chat, email, and support tickets, providing flexibility based on the urgency of the issue. They also maintain a small knowledge base with guides and tutorials, which helps resolve basic problems using the DirectAdmin panel.
DomainKing Pros and Cons
No hosting provider is perfect. Every service has strengths and limitations, and understanding both sides helps you make the right decision. After testing DomainKing’s performance, pricing, and support, here’s a clear breakdown of the Pros and Cons you should know.
Pros
- Affordable Plans
DomainKing offers budget-friendly hosting plans, making it attractive for beginners, bloggers, and small businesses. The entry cost is low enough to get started without a heavy financial commitment.
- Unlimited Bandwidth
Most plans include unlimited bandwidth, which means you won’t be charged extra for moderate traffic growth. This is necessary if your blog post suddenly gains attention or your marketing campaign generates high-traffic.
- Free Automated Daily Backups
All DomainKing’s plans come with automated daily backups of files and data. The daily backups feature gives you peace of mind. If something goes wrong, you can restore your site without worrying about starting from scratch.
- Free Malware Scanning
All DomainKing’s plans come with automated daily backups of files and data. The daily backups feature gives you peace of mind. If something goes wrong, you can restore your site without worrying about starting from scratch.
- Easy-to-Use Control Panel (DirectAdmin)
The DirectAdmin control panel is simple and beginner-friendly. Managing domains, databases, files, and WordPress installations is straightforward.
Cons
- Limited Knowledgeable Support Team
While the support team is helpful, the absence skilful and technical support team for live chat is a limitation; often, they ask you to open a ticket using email and wait for a few hours to get your matter resolved.
- Shared Hosting Only
They focus primarily on shared hosting. Advanced users looking for VPS or dedicated hosting may need to move to their parent hosting company, HostAfrica.
- Expective Renewal fee
The domain web hosting renewal fee after the first payment is higher than that of most web hosting companies in Nigeria.
They are an affordable, beginner-friendly web hosting provider with solid features and excellent reliability. However, if you need VPS or dedicated hosting solutions, you might want to consider alternative web hosting companies, such as HostAfrica, Smartweb and Truehost Nigeria.
In addition to shared hosting, they offer specialised solutions like WordPress hosting and reseller hosting. These services cater to users with specific needs, such as building WordPress-powered websites or starting their own hosting business. With tailored features and competitive pricing, DomainKing ensures flexibility for a wide range of online ventures.
Final Thoughts
After testing DomainKing’s servers for 30 days and evaluating its features, I can confidently say it delivers solid value for the price, especially for website owners in Nigeria.
You get unlimited bandwidth, a beginner-friendly DirectAdmin control panel, free automated daily backups, SSL, and built-in malware scanning. This provides a strong foundation for bloggers, startups, small businesses, and even resellers seeking affordable hosting without unnecessary extras.
In terms of performance, uptime remained stable, and the server handled moderate traffic with ease. As expected with shared hosting, high-traffic or resource-intensive projects may eventually require an upgrade. However, for most small to mid-sized websites, it performs reliably.
DomainKing may not be a premium enterprise host, but within the Nigerian hosting market, it competes effectively. The pricing is competitive, with practical features and stable infrastructure. If you’re looking for cost-effective hosting that covers the essentials and scales steadily with your growth, DomainKing is well worth it.
